I was recently let go from a company that called their bonus program the “best in the industry”. For some project managers and executives, the bonus program was very financially rewarding. They were supported with a staff of employees and were paid the bonus according to the calculations that they originally provided. For me, this was not the case. I was told the bonus program was discretionary and I was underpaid multiple times based on the calculations provided and the profit margins that my projects made. I was also unsupported and had minimal staff helping me to manage projects that were up to $21 mil in size. I hope others read this and keep bonus programs in mind and get sign on agreements detailed in writing.
